Self Esteem Boost

I have to say, one of the things I really love about living with my little nieces and nephews are the continual self-esteem boosts that I get from them. The little, "Auntie Bonnie, I love you" that randomly pops from Isabelle's mouth, or the "Auntie- you are just SO pretty" that Aurora will give me from time to time.

I mean just this morning when I was getting ready for church Aurora and her two friends Tatiana and Daisia that she had over for a sleep-over turn and look at me in awe and go "Oh- oh you are beautiful! I love that shirt! Oh you just look so nice!" and just when I'm thinking it couldn't get any better I put on my black high heeled boots only to have all 3 girls gasp in synchronization and say, "Those are perfect! You look perfect!" It was just so nice! But I have to say that overall, my favorite story so far about comments about my looks is the following one with Ethan.

Dieuwke and I had decided to do pore strips on our noses one afternoon, and as I followed her good-naturedly into the bathroom I grumbled in a joking tone, "Geez Dieuwke- if anyone in this house thought I was flawless once they sure know better now."
Ethan, who happened to be in the bathroom at the time, looked up at me with a face full of concern and said to me, "Oh Bonnie, my daddy thinks you're flawless!" and just as I'm trying to choke down some laughter since he obviously isn't quite aware of the meaning of the word he completely finishes me off with, "But don't worry Auntie- I still love you!" And with a hop off the bathtub wall he hugs my knees, tells me he loves me, and skips out the door.

What more could I ask for? A nephew who loves me- flawlessness and all!

The best thing is that children are so genuine so you know it's real - they haven't gotten that 'flattery for other's feelings' thing down yet. For the occasional heart ache that can come from them small people really know how to make your heart glow.
p.s. I agree with all the statements rendered by your neices and nephew - they are smart kids. :D

Too cute!!! Ethan is such a cutie! :) You are very lucky to have such cute nieces and nephews! Aren't they so much fun?
That's what I love about living down the street from Bryn. My two nephews and (now TWO) nieces are just a walk down the street. I'm flattered whenever they want to come over and play, or when they ask me to play transformers with them. Then I have Copeland who is just a DOLL! I am so lucky! :)

I LOVE your writing Bonnie! Keep it up! :)

Love, Jossi

Yeah, them kids sure know how to make life totally rock-awesome! I am looking forward to a little bit of that self-esteem-boosting over the next couple of weeks as I have them in my house...they sure are great for that. :)
