"I'm Dehydated- Get Me Some Sugar"

Actually, the above title is only going to be a small part of this blog-- it was just too good to pass up! Today while I was making dinner (and I would feel worse about the following paragraph except I made a silly mistake while I was making dinner that Dieuwke promised that she would blog about- so I decided to blog about hers...isn't having sisters fun?!) I was casually talking to Dieuwke and I offered her half of a chocolate chip cookie with me. To my surprise she said 'No" I looked at her with obvious surprise (I mean-- who would say no to a perfect chocolate chip cookie? And these were pretty perfect) and so, defending herself she explained "I'm feeling dehydrated" I was about to turn away having accepted that as a reasonable excuse when she finished her sentence "Yeah, I'm just dehydrated- I need sugar" I, of course, chuckled at her mistake (see- even smelling CCC makes your whole brain think sugar) and decided to include it in my blog as retaliation for the blog she'll blog about my stupid blunder...Life is good. But anyways, on to what I ACTUALLY came here to blog about.

So today guess what your favorite little blogger decided to do? She decided that it would be fun to try and walk across the Icicle River. There are a couple things about this idea that make it so very clear that your favorite little blogger may be fabulous but perchance not so brilliant. First off, the very name "Icicle River" should give you a huge hint that the water is a bit cold (icicleyish even). Secondly, going barefoot over a bunch of sharp (not sharp so much as REALLY hard) rocks - not the smartest thing to do. Also while it LOOKS like the river is fairly shallow (I mean you could see the rock bed all the way across to the other side) it could just be that the river is so clear and unpolluted (again with the name 'icicle') that it is in fact deeper than it would seem. And to top it all off, the current- which didn't look that bad- is quite a fast flowing current!

So, we were at this little beach and I see this river- which would be ideal for tubing by the by- and it's hot and I'm in a skirt so I say to Dieuwke, "Dieuwke, do you think it's possible to walk across that?" and she goes, "Well maybe- it doesn't look very deep, but look out for that current" So I hike up my skirt to around my thighs and start walking into the river. My first thought is, "Wow- this water is cold!" Quickly followed by "Wow, these rocks are sharp!" while in the background of my mind there is a recurring theme of "I hope I don't get my skirt wet"

So I'm walking very cautiously through the river- testing each step to make sure that the rocks aren't too sharp and that I'll be able to hold my own against the current. All of a sudden the next step was down about 6 inches lower from where it should have been (this is where I discovered that it isn't that the river is so shallow- it's that the water is so clear [not to say that I couldn't walk through it if there was no current- I could and it's would never get past my chest- but it becomes a problems with a current...] and it just looks like it's so shallow) so down I plunge- thankfully finding footing quickly against the current (It was about this time that I thought to myself "I am definitely not a fan of rocks") and miraculously getting only the edges of my skirt wet.

Since I'm not a completely insane person I say to myself, "Bonnie old girl" (because that's how I refer to myself) "You should turn around and head back to shore before something happens that you regret." So I turned around (I had made it a little less than halfway across the river) and started back. All of a sudden the current got stronger and I discovered simultaneously that going UP a 6 inch rock covered slope is much harder than going down (although it still shouldn't have been as hard as it was- it was only 6 inches for crying out loud...) and I threw my hands out to the side to maintain my balance. Of course this made my skirt completely drop down and boy did it get soaked. A corner of my mind was thinking "well, that's a shame" while the vast majority of it was noting with extreme bitterness how hard these rocks are and how much harder it was to walk on slippery, poky rocks when one doesn't have proper foot protection.

Anyways, to make a long, fairly pointless story come to it's conclusion- I slipped and slided to the shore (the skirt was already drenched so I figured it didn't matter how much wetter I got really) slipped on my mercifully protective flip-flops- really those things ARE amazing- and went to look at some mini fish with the resolution to not attempt that again without proper foot gear- and an ok mindset for getting soaked.

On the plus side my walk back to the house from the river was made much more refreshing by having my skirt being wet (although I could not for the life of me keep my mind from referring to all the books I had read that were written in the 1800s or set in the 1800s where shocking and scandalous ladies [you know, the skanks of our day] allowed their skirts to get dampened to show off their legs. Just goes to show how completely and utterly 1800s brainwashed my mind truly is) and due to the fact that the sun was shining mercilessly my skirt was actually almost dry by the time we did get home.

Oh it was a great day.

Freakin' riot Bonnie! Seriously didn't stop laughing thoughout the whole post - not least of all because of the words you used to write it. So funny! It's funny how good an idea can seem until you try and realize...yeah not so much. ;) I'm glad you listened to that little voice in your head and turned around as we all love having our Bonnie around.

Ditto the last two...your writing and word choices are HI-LARIOUS!! I love the whole play-by-play, especially including the thoughts you had. In particular, here are some descriptive words you used that I really loved:
icicleyish for the river
REALLY hard for the rocks (did you expect rocks to be otherwise?)
LOVE it!!
