Fancy Gala

Ok, I have to say it, I absolutely love social events! I do! I love being surrounded by people and just smiling and laughing and talking and having a good time. Social events are where I shine (provided I actually know some people---otherwise I'll just kind of stand there and look stupid.)

Well this Saturday my school is having a gala fundraiser and I'm going with my dad as his date. My mom has never really liked going to those, ever, and she's going to be out of town this Saturday anyway. So dad and I are going to go together, because well he has to go and I want to go with him (partly because of the food :) and partly because I still want him to have a grand time and who better to go with than me for a grand time? --totally just kidding--)

But there's going to be a nice dinner and entertainment and it's going to be so much fun! There's also going to be alcohol, which means I get to see all of my old teachers get sloshed- how much fun will that be?

Anyway, the biggest problem for these functions is that I don't know what to wear! (Yes, I really am vain enough to think of this problem) I mean, everyone is going to look nice, but it's not fancy enough for a prom dress so I'm kind of stuck with what I'm going to wear....I honestly have no clue what to do! Maybe I'll go through my clothes today, get rid of some things, decide what to wear....

Gah! Wish me luck!

Sydney White...no title

Heehee, this blog really has nothing to do with Sydney White, but I couldn't think of a title and when I was thinking of writing no title it reminded me of that line in Sydney White.

Heck, not only do I not have a title here, but I don't really even have anything to blog about! I think subconciously I'm doing this so I can delay writing the talk I need to write for YW tonight (New Beginnings---blegh) that and I promised someone on penalty of my life that I would do at least two blogs per week. And I don't think I've done any recently....and I want to live- I'm quite fond of that idea really.

But new Beginnings is tonight, and can I just say that I am so glad that this is my last one that I'll have to do (as a YW at any rate) ever! Oh I am so happy! There are so many little things I'll be thrilled about once I turn 18. (Of course dating people over 18 will be one of those perks--I can find a nice, young, handsome return missionary :P)

*sigh* *ho-hum* Nothing is really happening in my life to take notice of, except for the fact that maybe I'll be taking music lessons soon. The problem is that I can't justify $20 per lesson to myself, I'm trying though. I mean it'd be fun, and I'd totally love it! But it's $20....a lesson. I mean, talk about ouch!

Anyway, I guess I'd better write that talk...New Beginnings is starting alarmingly soon....

A Date!

Ok, this is going to have to be a quick post because I--very unfortunately--have to head up to work in a couple of minutes, but I went on a date last night!

It was a very fun date, my first one since December time frame, and I had such a good time!

We went out to dinner, and we went for dessert and we just sat and talked for three hours. That's all we did, just talked. Heck, I don't even remember everything that we talked about, but that's ok with me, because it was fun talking. I felt completely comfortable and it was amazing!

And I realized that I talk alot...alot....

Then we went back to my house and watched some episodes of Eureka (which is a very funny show by the way) and just talked some more.

I think I may be getting twitterpated....but we have another date planned for about two weeks away so, we'll see! :)

And Happy Birthday Steph!! Many happy returns!

First!

Man, you've got to love how many firsts there are in life! Everyday I have at least one, normally much more! For instance, on Saturday I did my first highway driving. My sister, Kim, has her Spring Break this week so we went to go pick her up from Salt Lake City. (We being my cousin, Sarah, and I) and I have to say, quite honestly I don't know that highway driving is more relaxing than city driving, I like driving in the city.

However, it does eat up your gas mileage faster. I get much better gas per gallon driving the highway than I do driving around town.

Another first I had on Saturday was a 4 to 1 wrestling match! It was my sister, Kim, my cousins, Aaron and Sarah, and me all against my big brother Thom! SO MUCH FUN! Needless to say, we won (which perhaps was part of the reason it was so fun) but Thom was such a good sport about it. I mean, when you have one person pinning your right leg, another your left leg, another your right arm, and another your left arm- you really don't have much hope of winning.

Before yesterday I'd never actually been an active participant in Thom Wrestling- I'd always watch Sarah do it and I would just cheer from the sidelines, but yesterday I threw myself right in there for better or for worse, and it was freaking blast!

Firsts are so much fun! Isn't it great to know that there will always be something in this life that you haven't tried yet? And that there will always be something new and exciting! All you have to do is look, and normally not even very far- things are there, right beyond our nose! And it's fantastic!

Uses

I can now officially say that my car is 100% usefull! I mean, I've never thought that it wasn't- in fact I've always loved and never once regretted the decision I made to buy it- but yesterday it was proven to the world that it is a good thing!

You see, my sister Stephanie has two adorable little girls and the older one, Emmuska, has preschool on Mondays and Wednesdays- yesterday was a Wednesday. So not only was it a preschool day, but it was a very important preschool day because they were celebrating Emmuska's birthday!

But, oh alas, oh alack there was something wrong with Stephanie's car! *Gasp!*

Apparently there was a crack in the oil tank and oil was dripping like nobody's business (perhaps dripping isn't the best word- dumping may describe it better) and by the time she got up to the Smiths up the street from our house her oil was gone!

So she was, stuck in a parking lot without any oil (the new and revised phrasing of stuck up a creek without a paddle) but wait! this story does not end in despair for there was Sophie to the rescue! :)

So, without a thought in my head but to save the poor damsel in distress I rushed up to Smiths and whisked Emmuska off to preschool (where I was mistaken for her mother. I ask you this- do I honestly look old enough to have a 3 year old--who could pass for 5--as a child? Really? Do I?)

After this important errand I went back to Smiths and we transformed my car from the pimped out ride of a teenagers that it was into a beautiful, sleek mode of transportation for children. At this point Steph and I both needed Dr. Pepper- after all in a situation such as this one there could have been nothing short of the Nectar of the Gods to help us out of this mess.

So we were driving idly around with two children in my car (for with us also was the next door neighbors little girl) until it was time to pick up Emmuska from school again. After that we finally went back home, and I was just plain tired. But Sophie had performed excellently!! She is an amazing car- with many uses and currently she is the love of my live. (Short of my sisters of course!)

Oh good days! Right? After all- you have to say--these days are absolutely amazing for building bonds between people and capturing memories. And I will have these memories for years to come--the Day the Car Died. :)

(Oh and for all concerned Steph's car is fine now--Ava is all better!)

Scissors!

Alright, so I'm out of high school (WHICH IS FREAKING AWESOME!) and I don't really learn things anymore...and sometimes I feel bad about my lack of education and I think I'm starting to get stupider so I decided I need to just learn things so I can continue using my brain. The great thing is that now I can learn about whatever the heck I want to learn about! So now I'll always be interested in what I'm learning, and it'll make me more excited about learning!

This morning I was helping my dad correct some last minute homework because the end of the quarter is coming up and he needed it all in (and being that I've been his aide for a year+ I am just pro at correcting homework, and I'm pretty fast. Not even joking sometimes I have dreams about creating master keys for his homework- how sad is that?) Anyway, while I was correcting homework a student came up to me and asked me if she could borrow some scissors and that got me thinking.

I mean how fascinating are scissors, really? They are amazing! They do so much, and sure we could use a knife and make scissors not as important but I for one don't want too because I have that sneaking suspicion I'll cut myself the first time I try, and it takes longer.

But they are so useful! I mean, just the other day I used a pair of scissors to make some old jeans into some new kapris! They're so great! So here it is for your entertainment and learning- the very much so abridged history of scissors:

So it would appear that scissors first came about in Egypt (because let's face it, they invented like everything!) around 1500 B.C. and since then they have, quite obviously, never left. They were made out of iron or bronze or steele and I have to say-just guess work here- that they probably weren't very comfortable to hold.

Not that it matters because even now in this day and age scissors aren't comfortable for me to hold because manufacturers insist on making them for right-handed people and it leaves poor left-handed people like me quite in the dust as far as cutting goes. I'm going to blame this fact for the reason I can't cut a straight line to save myself.

Anyway, back on subject as technology grew better so did scissors (although you can't really improve on the original idea...all people could do was make the blades sharper and the handles more comfortable) but people weren't happy with only one type of scissors, after all why have one when you can have hundreds? So they started inventing more!

Now you can get fabric scissors, paper scissors, sewing scissors, kitchen scissors, garden scissors (except gardeners really prefer it if you'd call those shears) and get this- they even have scissors that fit your feet!! I'm not really sure why...it doesn't sound very comfortable to me, but they have them!

Now, tell me honestly- after reading all this and learning all of this fascinating information about scissors don't you think that that word is spelled oddly? Really, the more you see it, and type it, and read it the more you start thinking- 'well, why didn't they just spell is sissors? or cissors? Why do they have the s AND the c instead of just one or the other?' But trust me, you don't want to start thinking about this, because you won't get an answer-- and if you're anything like me not having an answer will drive you nuts! And are scissors really worth going crazy for? Really? I think not! :)

And there you are--the very abridged and completely odd history of scissors!

Money

I feel like singing that song from...well is it either Cabaret or Sweet Charity....I think Cabaret- anyway, it's called Money.

Money is like hell. I just want to say this.

So I got my paycheck! Money! Yay, right? Wrong!

Money for cap and gown, money for yearbook, money for hubcaps, fuses, pressure gage, and gas cap (because yes- laugh as you will I lost my gas cap. I'm hanging my head in shame) Money for girl scout cookies (which ARE an essential) money for phone bill, money for insurance, money for dog food, money for a peeler (because apparently it's my fault the old one is gone) and guilted into money for cookie dough for some sort of charity. (Sorry Steph, I couldn't resist)

Two days and my paycheck is gone. How sad.

I feel like I'm completely lousy at managing money! Does anyone have any tips? Any tips at all? Valerie? Tips people- I need help!

CAR!

Ok, I just have to say that I absolutely adore having a car!

THE FREEDOM! The truth, the beauty, the love, THE FREEDOM!

Sorry, so as I was saying the truth, beauty, and love portion I thought of Moulin Rouge, and the children of the Bohemian Revolution, and now I'm going to have to go listen to that soundtrack. But I love my car! For all you out there, cars are fanfreakingtastic!

Busy Days

Wow, I can't believe I've neglected my blog for so long. I don't even really truly have the excuse that my title says because all I really do with my days is work. And I'm really on the computer quite a bit--as I'm sure my sisters could tell you!

But I do have some exciting news! Which...you know, all of you know already but that's ok!

I have recieved now both my car and my license! Not only do I have something to drive, but I am absolutely legal to drive it!!!!!! I'm so excited and happy!

I have to say, that having a car gives you the most wonderful sense of freedom, I'm no longer dependant on people for rides or times, I can go where I need to when I need to! And since I've spent the last 17 years building up trust with my parents they trust me to do what I need do (a trust I won't betray)

This is so happy and exciting! I love it!!!

And the other portion of news, not so exciting, is that I'm sick. Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh.

I've been sick for a little while now, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I am just having my up hours and my down hours- in fact I'm almost desperate enough to ask mom for help (which means *gulp* teas!) but I REALLY want to get better! Being sick is no fun, and my head is always foggy.

And work? Well let's just not go into what happens at work when I'm sick. I can't concentrate and I make loads of mistakes and running a shift is just chaotic!

Please wish me luck in these endeavors to get better soon! Particularly as I have a busy weekend planned filled with birthday parties, farewells (which aren't actually farewells because we don't have those anymore) and *fingers crossed* dates!
